  • Are counselling and supervision sessions confidential?
    FAQ: Yes, counselling and supervision at Ti Counselling and Supervision is strictly confidential. Counsellors are bound by ethical and legal obligations to maintain client confidentiality. All information shared during counselling sessions, including personal details and concerns, will be kept private and secure. Trust is an essential component of the therapeutic relationship, and great care is taken to ensure that you feel comfortable and safe discussing their issues with us. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality, such as if there is a risk of harm to you or others, or if the counsellor is required by law to disclose information. In such cases, the counsellor will discuss this with the you.
  • How does an online session work?
    Sessions can be held in-person or through video or phone calls. To schedule a session, you can make contact via this website, by email sonya@ticounselling.co.nz and by text or phone call to 021 2062450. Before the session, you will be sent a link to join the video call or provide you with the phone number to call at the scheduled time. During the session, you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns in a safe, confidential space. Online sessions are designed to be just as effective as in-person counselling or supervision, with the added convenience of being able to access support from the comfort of your own home. Secure and encrypted communication technology is used to ensure your privacy and confidentiality.   • How do I pay for a session?
    Depending on your situation there can be different payment options. Some workplaces offer employee funded sessions from providers such as TELUS Health, and Umbrella Enhanced EAP. Gumboot Friday offer two counselling sessions. Alternatively, you can also choose to pay privately via direct bank payment on the day of the session, or you or your workplace (if pre-approved) can be invoiced.
  • What is a code of ethics?
    A code of ethics is a set of guidelines and principles that govern the behavior and decision-making of professionals in a particular field. For counsellors, a code of ethics helps to establish standards for ethical conduct and provides a framework for responsible and respectful relationships with clients. At Ti Counselling and Supervision, we adhere to the ethical guidelines set out by the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC), which includes principles such as confidentiality, respect for clients' autonomy, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Counsellors are trained to uphold these ethical standards and to ensure that clients receive the highest quality of care and support.   • How long are sessions?
    Sessions are typically one hour long, however there can be some flexibility depending on your needs. Couples sessions tend to one and a half hours long.
  • What does Tī mean in Tī Counselling and Supervision?
    Tī was chosen for many reasons, In te reo Māori Tī can mean Ti Kōuka (cabbage tree) which has many personal meanings, one being the beautiful whakatauki on the welcome page of this website. Tī can also mean tea as in cup of tea, and Ti as in the indescribable light. These all resonate in both counselling and supervision work as we create together opportunities for growth, while acknowledging your indescribable light, and we can do this while having a cup of tea together.
  • What types of issues can counselling help with?
    Counselling services are offered for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, relationship issues, self-esteem, and more. Counsellors are experienced in helping individuals navigate their emotions and provide support to those who are struggling with various life challenges.     You can expect a safe and supportive environment where you can share your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment.   • What can I expect during my first counselling session?
    During your first session, you can expect to have a conversation with your counsellor about your reasons for seeking counselling, your background, and your goals for therapy. Your counsellor will also explain their approach to counselling and answer any questions you may have. This first session is an opportunity for you and your counsellor to get to know each other and establish a rapport.
  • Who are clinical supervision sessions for?

Generally clinical supervision sessions are designed for mental health professionals in a client facing role. These sessions are for individuals who are seeking guidance and support in their professional development and want to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of mental health.
